SB 1233: The initiative process is under direct attack!

The initiative and referendum process is reserved to the people of our state in the California Constitution. Yet Senate Democrat Alex Padilla, practically eliminates Californian citizen’s ability to use this process with SB 1233.

SB 1233 would make the initiative process cost prohibitive by forcing signature gathers to, at all times, carry the initiative or referendum in up to 11 different languages! If someone was actually concerned about multi-language access to bills and initiatives SB 1233 would also apply to legislators but it doesn't.

The rule does not apply to politicians who are law making machines. As we understand it, bill language is rarely even available within 24 hours of voting on the bill, even in English!

This will obviously stop most grassroots campaigns from seeking this form of government reform because the cost of printing the petitions in these languages would skyrocket. You could even be fined $1000 or jailed for failing to carry them!

FIRST : Come Show your opposition

SB 1233 will be heard next in the Assembly Appropriations Committee (date and time not yet available).

We need YOU there to oppose this bill and remind politicians they have been sent there to represent YOU.
