- What is Citizen Legislature Initiative? This is the ‘part-time’ legislature petition. CA’s legislators are the highest paid in the nation. 41 other states (including TX) already operate a part-time legislature. One of the top supporters of this initiative is Michael Reagan. He shares his thoughts here. http://www.newsmax.com/Newsfront/reagan-california-part-time-legislature/2012/04/17/id/436226
CLASS Act: Due date is July 11 (again, received in Sacramento by July 11)
*Sufficient signatures will result in a proposition measure on the 2014 ballot.

- What is the CLASS Act? Class Act is an interest to stop SB48 which was passed by the CA legislature and implemented into law in January of this year. SB48 requires all public schools to include positive discussions of the sexual orientations of transgender, bisexual, and gay Americans in all social science courses (K-12). The CLASS Act is in attempt through the petition and proposition process available within our state to stop this bill (SB48). The CLASS Act advocates an accurate teaching of history and ensures that people included in social science curriculum are included for their contributions to society, not their sexual orientation. This initiative demands that no one be left out because of their sexual preferences, but that their contribution to history is what we focus on, not their sexual preference.
Understand that signing either petition does not mean you are voting for it - not that you wouldn’t, but know the difference, especially if/when collecting signatures on your own. Adding your signature to either petition means you feel there is enough validity in the idea to allow CA voters to decide whether or not it should be made into law.
If you haven’t signed either petition and want to you can stop by the Redlands Tea Party booth at Market Night this week (6/21) and sign one we have on hand.
